The Challenge
Lifting a 45-Metre Bridge Without Shutting Down Critical Pedestrian Access
When bridge bearings fail, councils face a difficult choice, either:
- Extensive closures that disrupt communities
- Precision engineering that keeps downtime minimal.
For the Moreton Bay Regional Council’s ageing pedestrian bridge, Dynaciv chose the latter, but it meant solving a complex engineering puzzle.
The technical challenge was threefold:
- Synchronously jack the bridge at multiple points with millimetre-level precision to prevent structural stress
- Remove and replace deteriorated bearings while the structure remained elevated
- Use 8-tonne load skates to laterally shift the bridge without damage to the deck or supporting infrastructure
With uneven loads capable of causing catastrophic failure and confined site access limiting equipment options, this project demanded flawless coordination and specialized hydraulic systems designed for synchronized lifting.

Our solution
High-Pressure Hydraulic Systems with Split Flow Control
Legend Hire worked closely with Dynaciv to plan and deliver a complete hydraulic jacking solution tailored for this project. We supplied:
- High-pressure hydraulic jacks
- A split flow system for simultaneous multi-point lifting
- Detailed technical documentation and guidance
The split flow system was essential in ensuring the bridge was lifted evenly, reducing risk and improving control during each stage of the jacking process.
Site Support and Safety as a Priority
We understand that new equipment, especially high-pressure systems can introduce unfamiliar risks. That’s why we go beyond just equipment hire:
- We delivered on-site training for Dynaciv’s operators on the split flow system and safety protocols
- Our team discussed load requirements, pressure settings, and system limitations in detail
- We were present for the initial jacking sequence, ensuring the bridge lift went smoothly and safely

Collaborative Execution with Dynaciv
While Dynaciv brought their own experience in bridge maintenance, our specialised knowledge in high-pressure hydraulic applications added an extra layer of confidence. The collaboration between our teams helped ensure the jacking process was completed on schedule and with zero incidents.
Delivering More Than Equipment
At Legend Hire, we believe in partnering with our clients—not just supplying gear. From temporary works and bridge lifting to jacking systems and site support, we’re committed to making infrastructure projects safer, smoother, and more successful.
