The Customer’s Challenge
A client was undertaking the restoration of a building severely damaged by fire. The tricky part of dealing with fire damaged structures is the unseen damage including the warping of structures. Thermal damage can also cause structural issues to concrete, metal, and timber. There is always a safety concern of weakened framework collapsing. If props are installed incorrectly, there may be an increased pressure on weak points causing an untimely failure. These many unpredictable scenarios are the reason engineering needs to be done before any fundamental changes can take place.
Key structural walls needed removal, but the ceiling still required full support. The project faced tight deadlines, and no prior engineering had been completed, adding complexity to the job.
In addition, the internal ceiling of the break room had to remain intact while the base was demolished. The client needed the job completed urgently to prevent delays to demolition and rebuilding works.
These challenges make all the difference in knowing which product to recommend. Thanks to our incredible team of experts, this stage of the discovery process proved to not cause any extra complications for the client.
Our Solution
Our team at Legend Hire quickly assessed the site and our inhouse engineers produced the required documentation to navigate weak points in the structure. After this, they compiled a propping solution tailored to the situation.
The 2.4m GT Beams together with the Legend Multi Props were identified as the ideal solution to control the load, with their ability to be quickly adjusted and sustain large loads. The telescopic design of the Multi Props allows precise height adjustment to suit warped floors, sagging ceilings, and varying ceiling heights without custom fabrication. The GT Beam allows for the redistribution of weight from the building, taking it off the damage structural beams. Instead of one prop trying to carry a concentrated point load from a beam or slab, the GT Beam distributes that load across two, three, or more props. This greatly increases stability and safety. Fire-affected timber joists, concrete soffits, or steel beams are often brittle or uneven. Our provided beams provide a straight, continuous support line under them, reducing the risk of punch-through or point failure.
We prepared a fast, accurate quote and, after the customer agreed with our assessment, promptly dispatched all necessary equipment.
With our experienced team on site, the props were installed efficiently, ensuring the ceiling remained fully supported while demolition progressed safely.
The Result
The entire installation was completed in just one day, allowing the client to continue their restoration work without delay. The customer appreciated the speed, professionalism, and reliability of our service.
