Project Overview
Momentum Built needed to support a concrete basement wall in Penshurst before backfilling could begin ahead of the ground floor slab pour. High lateral loads and restricted access through the formwork frames ruled out standard propping spacing.
Legend Hire engineered a 50T Modular Propping solution, positioned to manage the load while keeping the work area accessible for the build to continue.
The Challenge
The basement wall was subject to high lateral loads once backfilling began, requiring a propping system rated well beyond standard capacity. Access through the existing formwork frames was tight, limiting where props could be positioned without obstructing the contractor’s ongoing works.
A conventional propping layout at standard centres would have congested the space and slowed the build.

The solution
Legend Hire specified its 50T Modular Propping System to manage the high lateral loads generated during backfill. Props were engineered and spaced at larger centres than standard configurations, reducing the physical footprint through the formwork frames while maintaining the required load rating across the wall.
This allowed Momentum Built’s crew to continue working around the props with minimal disruption to trade access and sequencing.
Equipment Used
- Legend 50T Modular Propping System
- Engineered prop spacing/layout for reduced footprint
The Outcome
The basement wall was safely supported through the backfill process, allowing Momentum Built to continue construction of the ground floor slab without delay. The wider prop spacing preserved access for other trades, and the wall was stabilised with no disruption to the project program
