The Challenge
During construction of a new residential home in Sydney, a primary structural steel beam installed with a mid-span splice connection experienced greater deflection than anticipated following installation. With the upper floor structure already bearing on the beam, the situation required immediate attention.
The beam had moved out of level beyond design tolerances, meaning permanent strengthening works could not proceed until it was accurately re-levelled. Any remediation had to be carried out with precision: applying too much force too quickly risked structural shock or damage to surrounding elements, while insufficient control could leave the beam inadequately restored.
