Legend Hire was engaged to design, supply, and install a temporary propping system to support the existing structure of a factory undergoing critical roof replacement works. The objective was to ensure the structural integrity of the building during the re-roofing process, enabling safe removal and replacement of roof components without compromising safety or stability.

Project Overview

Legend Hire was engaged to design, supply, and install a temporary propping system to support the existing structure of a factory undergoing critical roof replacement works. The objective was to ensure the structural integrity of the building during the re-roofing process, enabling safe removal and replacement of roof components without compromising safety or stability.

Scope of Work

DESIGN

  • Custom temporary propping layout developed by Legend Hire’s engineering team to suit the specific dimensions and loading requirements of the factory.
  • Consideration of live loads, dead loads, and wind actions during the open-roof phase.
  • Compliance with Australian Standards (AS 3610, AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170 series).

Supply

  • High-capacity Legend Hire modular propping systems, including Legend50T  props where required.
  • Tilt prop racing system designed to provide lateral stability.
  • All components tested and certified prior to deployment.

Installation

  • Installation carried out by Legend Hire’s skilled Install team in accordance with Legend Hire engineered design.
  • Use of Timber sleepers has spreader pads to distribute load and protect concrete floor.
  • Bracing connections to ensure rigidity and prevent buckling or sway.

Inspection & Handover

  • Final inspection and sign-off by Legend Hire site supervisor and structural engineer.
  • Handover to client with all documentation, including installation certificate and compliance records.

Engineering Considerations

Load Calculations

  • Assessment of roof truss and purlin loads during removal.
  • Consideration of dynamic loads induced by wind uplift with sections of roof sheeting removed.
  • Prop layout optimized to minimize interference with roofing contractor activities.

Safety Measures

  • All props fitted with safety tags, load test certifications, and adjustment markings.
  • Exclusion zones maintained during prop installation and dismantling.
  • Works conducted under a Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) specific to propping activities.

Outcome

The project was successfully completed with:

  • Zero incidents or safety breaches.
  • Structural stability maintained throughout the roof removal and replacement process.
  • Timely completion in alignment with the roofing contractor’s program.

Legend Hire demonstrated its capability to deliver engineered propping solutions for complex industrial projects, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency.
