OMAC 23.D Dyneema Rope

The OMAC 23.D is a high-resistance Dyneema rope used as a pilot or pulling rope in overhead line stringing. It is the all-Dyneema counterpart to the 23.P, giving a higher breaking load and lower weight at each diameter in exchange for losing the polyester wear cover.

Eight diameters are available, from Ø6 mm (4000 daN breaking load, 0.02 kg/m) to Ø20 mm (36500 daN, 0.20 kg/m). That strength-to-weight ratio is the reason to choose it: a 12 mm 23.D breaks at 13000 daN and weighs 0.07 kg/m, against 0.55 kg/m for a 13 mm steel rope, so long lengths are far easier to handle and to pay out from tower height or by helicopter.

The rope is light-weight and wear resistant, with 3% elongation. Standard lengths run up to 3000 m for Ø6 to 10 mm, up to 2000 m for Ø12 to 16 mm, and 500, 800 or 1000 m for Ø18 and 20 mm. It is supplied wound on wooden reels or in coils, with Ø1100, 1400 or 1600 mm steel reels as options.

Terminations can be clamped eyes with metallic collars, hand-spliced eyes, or a head stocking-grip with eyes. Clamped eyes carry a breaking load 30–35% lower than the rope itself.
