OMAC W55 Hydraulic Winch

The OMAC W55 is a hydraulic front drum winch with a 55 kN maximum pull and the top of OMAC’s service winch range. Like the W35 it is suitable for transport by helicopter, and it is designed for stringing LV and MV overhead lines, hoisting and tower erection, underground cabling and sagging, where heavier conductor, larger hardware or bigger lifts call for more force than a 35 kN machine.

It is built on the same platform as the W35, with the same Ø450/680 x 700 mm steel drum, 36.5 hp (27 kW) liquid-cooled diesel and 1900 x 1300 x 1650 mm footprint, but geared for force. The W55 pulls 55 kN at 17 m/min and still reaches 85 m/min unloaded. The drum holds 350 m of Ø18 mm rope, so it takes heavier rope than the W35.

An automatic swinging rope-winder spools the rope evenly, and the control panel dynamometer with max pull force preselector lets the operator set a force limit before work begins. A safety hydraulic negative brake holds the load. For lifting applications, options 064 (load descent control on engine failure) and 127.3 (lifting safety device) are available.

A heat exchanger cools the hydraulic oil, and the machine is enclosed in metallic coverage with doors. It rides on a rigid axle with tyres and a drawbar for low-speed towing on site, with mechanical front and back stabilisers and anchoring points, and weighs 1100 kg without rope. Crews running both machines share engine servicing and parts across the W35 and W55.
